Game: Toucan Play

Toucan Play is a flying game where you try to fly as far, fast, high and long as you can. You earn points as you wear your devices, and use them to buy upgrades to improve your flight. If you are paired with a 'buddy', you are working together to earn points as you'll both get to spend them on upgrades.

Home Screen

After entering the Game section of the app, you will be taken to the Toucan Play home screen.

• Total earned: The total number of points earned by you and, if you're paired with one, your buddy. You can spend these on upgrades (and can sell them later for the same value if you change your mind).

• Personal high scores and corresponding ranks across four categories:

  • Distance: The furthest distance you've flown.

  • Speed: The fastest air speed you reached during all of your flights.

  • Altitude: The highest altitude you've reached.

  • Longest air time: The longest duration of a flight you've flown.

• Play!: Takes you to play the game (see below)

• Upgrades: Takes you to the Upgrade store (the button shows the number of points available to spend)

Flying

The aim is to control the toucan and achieve the highest score across the game’s four scoring categories: distance, speed, altitude and air time. Increasing the high score of a category might push you to a better ranking.

The toucan won’t fly very far on the first attempt -- you’ll need to earn some points so that you can buy some upgrades!

Boost: To use your boost fuel, tap the area inside the inner semi-circle (highlighted in red in the above image, and shown in the game until you use the boost). You can tap in long or short bursts as you like. Beware that your starter fuel will get used up very quickly!

Pitch: Move the bar in the outer semi-circle to change the angle of the toucan (the red line in the above image, and shown in the game until you use adjust the pitch). Moving to the left will make the toucan pitch upwards; while moving right makes the toucan pitch downwards. The Toucan is like a glider: when you have a few upgrades, you will find playing with the angle has different effects depending on how fast you're travelling along or falling.

When the toucan reaches the ground, this round is over and you will be shown your scores from that attempt, and whether you've earned a new high score or achieved a new rank. Continue takes the you back to the game's home screen.

Upgrades

The points earned by wearing the bands can be exchanged for upgrades in the “Upgrade” store. These will help you to increase your game scores. “Balance” shows you the number of points available to spend.

• Boost Fuel: Increases the amount of fuel available for the Boost button.

• Launch Height: Increases the start height the Toucan launches at.

• Launch Speed: Increases the start speed the Touch launches at.

You can Buy and Sell freely -- the sell price is the same as the buy price, so you can swap your upgrades around at any time to try to get the best score/rank in each category. The upgrades can be used for an unlimited number of games until you chose to sell them again to re-spend the points. If you buy several of the same upgrade, you will notice that the price starts to get more expensive.

Notes

You must be connected to the internet when you start the game and, to make sure that any new high scores or ranks that you earn, and your current choice of upgrades, is saved, you should stay connected while playing.
